At least 7,329 first-year students have been admitted at Kisii University since the commencement of the admission exercise on August 29.

Speaking during the first yearโ€™s orientation event at the institution, Kisii University Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Nathan Ogechi confirmed they had received 7,329 students so far and the institution was prepared to ensure every student excels in their area of expertise.

Prof. Ogechi assured the students of adequate support from the academic and support staff who are well-trained locally, regionally, and internationally, and have experience working as external examiners and publishers.

The VC also promised them of maximum security within the university and its outskirts in collaboration with administrators from the Ministry of Interior.

He called upon the students to always carry their student with them identity cards to guarantee their safety, especially when confronted by the security agencies.

In addition, Prof. Ogechi lauded the new university funding model that began its implementation with the current second-year students saying it has enabled the institution to acquire additional resources that will be beneficial to the students in the near future.

He encouraged the aggrieved students placed in the wrong bands to revise and appeal for the same as directed by the government noting that some errors were made by those who engaged the cyber cafe providers in the exercise.

The VC urged the newly admitted students to take their education seriously and ensure they complete their studies within the expected period.

โ€œAttend all lectures, and all tutorials, and do all cats to make sure your attendance level is at 80% for one to qualify for the end of the semester examinations,โ€ he said.

Prof. Ogechi also told the students to read the student handbook and observe all rules and regulations governing their conduct to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.

โ€œIf you misbehave, we will invite you to the disciplinary committee with your guardian or parent whose name is in your file,โ€ he warned.
