A Non-Governmental organization (HEDSO) yesterday held a bicycle cycling event to raise funds towards supporting teenage mothers in Kisumu County to attain education and be economically empowered.

The HEDSO Organization spearheads the โ€˜Knit Her Futureโ€™ initiative which aims to providing education and training for young mothers who do not have a chance to go to school due to early pregnancies.

Tyson Okello, Programme Coordinator at HEDSO Organization said the cycling event aimed at engaging the local community, particularly adolescents and young women, to better understand the challenges facing them.

โ€œThis feedback will guide the implementation of solutions that directly address these issues, such as economic exploitation in exchange for basic needs like sanitary pads,โ€ Okello said.

The initiative offers skills training in areas such as pastry, knitting, and liquid soap production to empower the beneficiaries by providing them with practical skills that could lead to economic independence.

One of the participants in the event Abuta Teresa emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the exploitation young girls faced in society.

In collaboration with other non-governmental organizations, โ€œKnit Her Futureโ€ seeks to bring lasting change to vulnerable communities in the lake region, empowering girls through education and training for a brighter future.
