170 secondary school heads in Kirinyaga convened at Kerugoya Boys High School to discuss recent strikes affecting schools in the county.
The meeting brought together the Regional Director of Education, Kirinyaga County Security Team, and County Heads of Education after two institutions, Kerugoya and Karia Boys, were closed indefinitely due to the razing down of their dormitories.
Central Region Director of Education Sabina Aroni noted that most strikes occurred in the second term of the school calendar and called for headteachers to be in school 24/7 and respond diplomatically to student needs.
She also called for vigilance by school managers and urged principals to allow students to have entertainment and address them using appropriate language.
Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Allasow emphasised the role of subordinate staff in unrest and called for vigilance by school managers.
Kirinyaga County Officer Lydia Mutegi recommended the full installation of CCTV cameras, repairing porous fencing, and checking on all people entering the school.
