2025 official school calendar breakdown: Key term dates, half-term breaks, national exams

School calendar for Term one 2025

All Schools in Kenya will reopen on January 6, 2025, for the start of the new academic year, the government has announced.

A circular from the Ministry of Education, issued on Thursday, November 28, outlines the 2025 school calendar.

Learners will resume classes for the first term on January 6, with studies running for 13 weeks until April 4.

A five-day half-term break is scheduled from February 26 to March 2, and the first term will officially close on April 7, allowing students a three-week holiday until April 25.

School calendar for Term Two 2025

The Education Ministry’s detailed the calendar shows that second term would begin on April 28 and last 14 weeks.

Students will have a five-day half-term break from June 25 to June 29, and the term will conclude on August 1. The three-week second-term holiday will follow from August 4 to August 22.

School calendar for Term Three 2025

The third term will commence on August 25 and run for nine weeks, ending on October 24. Students will then go on the November-December break. During this term, key national examinations are scheduled.

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will take place from October 27 to October 30, while the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will run from October 27 to October 31.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be conducted over three weeks in November, 2025.
