25,392 youths apply for the 2,032 Climate Works job vacancies in Kakamega

Out of 25,392 applicants who showed interest and applied for the Climate Workx program via the government’s digital portal, only 1,966 youth and 66 supervisors are set to be recruited in Kakamega County under the revamped Kazi Mtaani Initiative, now renamed Climate Workx.

Kakamega County Commissioner Michael Meru Mwangi announced that this six-month initiative will commence next month, aiming to provide daily wages and employment opportunities in areas such as road maintenance, drainage, waste management, and climate resilience.

“Implementing agencies should focus on access roads that significantly impact the community and promote the use of local labor and materials to empower residents,” he stated.

The selected youth, aged between 18 and 35, will be assigned to all 14 sub-counties and organized into two groups, each working for 10 weekdays per phase.

“The recruited youth will be in the 18-35 age range, with a balanced gender ratio, but only those who applied online will be considered,” he added.

Workers will receive Sh500 per day, while supervisors will earn Sh580.

Implementing agencies, including KeNHA, KURA, KeRRA, and KFS, will offer technical support, alongside assistance from other organizations such as NACADA, Kenya Red Cross, and the Public Health Department.

The initiative will promote gender balance, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and community empowerment through the use of local labor and materials.
