Teachers arrested as 3 Nandi schools probed over KCSE

Police in Nandi county are investigating three schools for alleged exam malpractices after seven teachers were arrested with suspected examination material from social media.

Nandi County criminal investigation officer Peter Ochieng said Kamimei Secondary School in Nandi South, Koitalel Samoei Boys School in Nandi East and Lelwark Boys School in Nandi East are on the police radar.

A supervisor and an invigilator are among the seven teachers who have been implicated. Ochieng said police and other security agencies across the county are on high alert to monitor and break exam cheating syndicates.

“Those who are trying to ruin the lives of innocent young learners won’t be spared; please stop destroying the lives of our children because their future depends on their education,” he said.

Ochieng said police have the capacity to detect any exam fraud circulated online within the shortest time possible.

The teachers were released on bond as police continue with the investigations.

Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili warned that exam cheating syndicates will be dealt with accordingly.

She asked all the key players to be vigilant and produce clean results.

“Ths time round we shall up our game because our security agencies are under fi rm instructions to ensure exam malpractices are dealt with accordingly,” Nzwili said.

She urged parents to instill discipline in their children to do away with cheating culture.

Last year Kenya National Examination Council withheld KCSE results for 282 candidates in Koitalel Samoei Boys High School for one month while investigating suspected exam irregularities.
