Busia County secondary schools term two ball games will start this week Thursday 6th to 8th of this month in Nambale.
Different from the previous editions, this year will see the number of sub counties rising to eight after the newly formed Teso Central confirmed their participation in various disciplines.
Teso North was the last sub county to avail their soccer boys’ representatives following a fracas that marred the final pitting hosts Katakwa Secondary against St. Joseph’s Kocholya last week forcing the postponement of the heated match to a neutral ground at St. Paul’s Amukura in Teso Central for security reasons.
The match which eventually took place yesterday, saw Kocholya win 4-3 through post-match penalties following a barren draw in normal time; thus getting the coveted slot to travel to Nambale as Teso North 2023 soccer kings.
After all the eight sub counties confirming schools to represent them, a long awaited pooling draw has been conducted to ease the piling tension prior to the main competitions.
In soccer girls, reigning champions Kingandole Secondary from Butula will need to ward off stiff competitions from Khwilare Secondary of Nambale, St. Jacobs Kaliwa of Teso Central and Bunyala representative St. Ann’s Bunyala Girls in pool A.
Pool B has another county favourite St. Joseph’s Chakol from Teso South who will square it with Teso North’s Katakwa, Mabunge AC from Matayos and St. Cecilia’s Nangina Girls from Samia Sub County.
In boys’ pool A, St. Thomas Aquinas Madende from Nambale will battle new comers Ng’elechom Secondary of Teso South, Kwangamor Secondary of Teso Central and Odiado Secondary from Samia in what should be a walk over the school that eliminated hosts Nambale boys by 2-1 in a tough Nambale sub county final.
Pool B of boys’ soccer has St. Mathias Boys of Matayos who represented Busia County at the regional games in Mumias after finishing second to Mabunge RC. Other teams in pool are St. Joseph’s Kocholya from Teso North, former champions Bujumba Boys from Butula and John Osogo Boys from Bunyala; the pool many have described as ‘a pool of death’
The national Ruby 15 champions Butula Boys under Coach Shimenga Livondo have mountain to climb in rugby 7 when they will battle other county heavyweights like Kolanya Boys, Mundika Boys, Nambale Boys and St. Mathias.
It should be noted that Busia County boasts Butula Boys who finished runners up in the national rugby 7s to represent Kenya in Arusha Tanzania alongside champions Koyonzo Boys from Kakamega County.
In volley ball girls, pool A has Kakurkit of Teso North, Musokoto of Nambale, Bumala AC of Butula and St. Marys Amukura of Teso Central.
Pool B contains Bunyala Girls, St. Monica Chakol of Teso South, Busibi Girls of Samia and St. Peters Budokomi of Matayos.
Pool A of boys’ volleyball has Butula Boys, Mundika Boys of Matayos, Sigalame Boys of Samia and Katakwa Secondary of Teso North; a group many view as a pool of death.
Pool B has St. John’s Alupe of Teso South, Nambale Boys, Kwangamor Secondary of Teso Central and Sisenye secondary from Bunyala.
In netball, Bumala AC from Butula who represented Kenya during the F.E.A.S.S.S.A in Arusha Tanzania after finishing second to Kobala of Nyanza region during the national games are in pool B alongside Sisenye of Bunyala, Odiado of Samia and Chemasiri secondary from Teso North.
Pool A will pit Apokor of Teso Central, Our Lady of Mercy of Matayos, Buyofu of Nambale and St. Joseph’s Chakol of Teso South.
