C3 Teacher TSC salary scale and allowances
Teachers are classified into various categories, each receiving salaries and allowances appropriate to their level of experience and professional qualifications. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has recently released new salary packages for teachers who have been promoted to different job grades, which has resulted in modifications to the C3 teacher salary framework.
For an extended period, the C3 teacher salary within TSC has generated substantial concern, but this issue has been recently tackled. Despite the significance of these revisions, information regarding the updated salary and allowances for C3 teachers remains largely undisclosed to the public. This article investigates the updated salary and allowance specifics. So, what is the salary for a C3 teacher? Who qualifies for a C3 teacher salary?
The C3 teacher salary pertains to educators classified in Job Group L under the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) established by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Teachers belonging to this category comprise Senior Teacher I (primary schools), Senior Master III (secondary schools), and Senior Lecturer III (tertiary institutions).
The educators in this group must possess a bachelor’s degree in Education or a diploma in education with additional experience, have worked in grade C2 for no less than 3 years, and show commendable performance in both teaching and administrative functions. They are also expected to participate in TSC professional development initiatives if necessary. Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers in both primary and secondary schools also qualify for this salary grade.
If you are a new teacher with TSC, you are not directly assigned to C3 but start at C1 (for primary teachers with a diploma) and C2 for secondary teachers with a bachelor’s degree.
You can advance to C3 after acquiring experience, attending TSC development programs, and seeking promotions. For secondary school teachers, moving to C3 occurs automatically after three years of service. Subsequently, you will need to apply for interviews to advance within the job group.
While many individuals are acquainted with the various teacher salary structures, not everyone is knowledgeable about the recent modifications to the C3 teacher salary package. Certain job groups were removed, and others were integrated within this new TSC grading framework.
In this revised system, the positions for teachers included in the C3 job group, classified under job group 8, are as follows: Secondary Teacher I, Lecturer I, SNE Teacher I—Primary, SNE Teacher II—Secondary, Senior Teacher I.
What is the fundamental salary of a C3 teacher? What is the fundamental salary of a secondary school teacher and others within this classification?
They receive a basic salary that falls between Ksh 43,154 and Ksh 53,943. The precise figure a teacher earns within this range is influenced by various elements, including their specific job type, level of experience, and assigned duties.
