Chuka Girls, Nyambaria High school record poor results in KCSE 2025 exams

Nyambaria high school and Chuka girls recorded poor results in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations.

Tharaka Nithi Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Branch Executive Secretary Patrick Gitonga has blamed what he termed as the bossy leadership style of Chuka Girls High School principal Joan Muchina for the drastic decline in the school’s academic performance.

Gitonga said that in just three years since the principal took over, the school’s mean score has dropped from 7.2 to 5.7 this year,an outcome he described as unfortunate for a premier institution that has now been overtaken by schools such as Kaanwa Day Secondary School.

He alleged that the principal has introduced unfriendly measures, including the installation of audio-enabled CCTV cameras in the staffroom to monitor teachers’ conversations.

According to Gitonga, since the principal assumed office, at least 16 teachers have been transferred, while others have been issued with show-cause letters under unclear circumstances.

He further claimed that, unlike other schools, the Chuka Girls administration is withholding examination results from the community and has embarked on admitting unusually large numbers of students in a bid to raise more money.

Gitonga warned that unless urgent measures are taken to salvage the school, Chuka Girls is headed in the wrong direction and it will take a long time to restore its former glory.

Nyambaria high school is also on the limelight for producing a dismal performance. In the recently-released results, the school had zero As, 21 A-minus, 99 B-plus, 285 plain B, and 306 B-minus, earning a mean score of 8.06.

This is a huge decline in performance, if the 2024 results is anything to go by. In 2024, the school recorded a mean score of 9.1058 against the 8.06 attained in 2025. This resulted in a negative deviation of -1.0458.

In the 2024 KCSE exams, 2 candidates scored straight As, while 49 got A- (minus). Other candidates scored as follows: B+ (225), B (290), B- (75), C+ (36), C (22), C- (9) and only one candidate scored a D+ (plus).

The school topped nationally in the 2021 exams.
