CS Machogu, TSC to face MPs over Intern teachers and Schools’ reopening

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Ezekiel Machogu is set to appear before National Assembly Education Committee on Thursday to address concerns regarding the communication issued on the postponement of school dates for the second term.

In a meeting, chaired by Hon. Julius Melly (Tinderet), Committee Members expressed concern with the Education Ministry’s last minute communication of postponement of school opening as a result of the ongoing flooding which caused confusion and has adversely affected parents and school going children.

The Committee is also expected to engage with the Teachers Service Commission regarding the status Junior Secondary School teachers following a court order prohibiting TSC from recruiting and employing student teachers and interns as it’s constitutional and statutory mandate spreads only to employment of duly qualified and registered teachers.
