Dr Nancy Njeri Macharia is the current Boss at the Teachers Service Commission, TSC. She is serving her second term as the Chief Executive Officer, CEo/ Secretary.
DR NANCY MACHARIA’S EARLY LIFE & EDUCATION.
The TSC chief executive was born in 1963 in the Central region of Kenya. She underwent her basic level training in the same region. She later joined Kenyatta University for her higher education.
In 1987, Dr Macharia graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor of Education Degree in English/Literature.
DR NANCY MACHARIA’S WORK EXPERIENCE
After graduating, she was immediately posted at Kahuhia Girls’ Secondary in Murang’a, where she taught for five years. In 1992 Dr Macharia was promoted to the rank of deputy head teacher at Kianderi Girls’ Secondary in Murang’a County.
The next few years saw her being appointed a staffing officer and rose through the ranks to the current post.
In 2002 she pursued a Master’s degree in education at Bristol University in the UK, specializing in management of policy studies.
The tough talking TSC Boss has undergone training in diverse fields. These include: Corporate Governance, Public Procurement, Policy Formation, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Proactive Management and Business Excellence Models, among others.
Her star continued to rise and in 2015 she took over from the then long serving TSC Boss, Gabriel Lengoibon; defetaing 69 other applicants. Dr Macharia became the first ever female Boss at TSC since its inception.
In July, 2020 her tenure was renewed for another term of five years. She performs a number of roles as the TSC Secretary/ CEO.
She is a member of the Kenya Association of Public Administration Management (KAPAM) and Institute of Directors. She also sits at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, as a Board member.
DR NANCY MACHARIA’S MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS
In 2014, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded her the Order of Grand Warrior for her tremendous contributions in the education sector.
She has also steered changes at the TSC and her abrasiveness has earned her admirers and haters within the teaching circles.
Not so much is known about Dr. Nancy Macharia’s family, though.
