Education Ministry Announces Recruitment Of Select Teachers; Deadline And How To Apply
In a significant move aimed at boosting the capacity of teachers in special needs education across the country, the Ministry of Education has officially announced the recruitment of serving teachers for a two-year full-time Diploma course in Special Needs Education (SNE).
The program, which will be offered at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), is scheduled to commence in 2025.
The new Intake specifically targets current employees under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) who are passionate about supporting and teaching learners with disabilities.
By equipping teachers with advanced skills and specialized knowledge, the program aims to address the growing demand for qualified educators in special education institutions and inclusive classrooms.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the in-service course will offer training in several areas of specialization to cater to the diverse needs of learners with disabilities.
These include teaching learners with visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and those with deafblind conditions.
The programme is designed to ensure that participants acquire practical and theoretical knowledge needed to deliver quality education to all learners, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.
Application Process and Requirements
- Interested TSC teachers are encouraged to apply for the programme by accessing application forms, which are now available for download on the Ministry of Education’s official website.
- Alternatively, applicants can visit their respective County Directors of Education (CDE) or Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDE) offices to collect the forms in person.
“All serving TSC teachers wishing to be considered for admission to KISE for the two-year full-time SNE Diploma in-service course are informed that application forms are now available and can either be downloaded from the Ministry of Education website or obtained from the nearest CDEs/SCDEs’ offices,” read a statement from Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok.
Applicants are expected to fill out the forms accurately and submit them personally to their respective sub-county education offices by May 9, 2025.
The SCDE offices will then be responsible for forwarding all duly completed forms to the Ministry of Education headquarters at Jogoo House B, rooms 710 and 618/619, in Nairobi by May 16, 2025.
Qualification Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must meet several key criteria. They must:
- Be Kenyan citizens under the age of 50
- Hold a valid P1 teaching certificate
- Have served as a TSC-registered teacher for a minimum of five years.
In addition, applicants are required to submit original and certified copies of their academic and professional certificates, a national ID or passport, a recent passport-sized photograph, and any other relevant supporting documents.
Visually impaired applicants have been granted an exemption from the requirement to handwrite their application forms, in line with inclusive practices.
Principal Secretary Bitok was keen to clarify that the application process is completely free of charge, urging teachers not to pay any fees at any stage of the application.
“No teacher should pay any money to anyone for this process. The application and registration are entirely free,” he stressed.
Teachers who are successfully selected for the program will be notified via SMS. The Ministry will also provide detailed instructions on how they can access and download their official admission letters.
This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing inclusive education and promoting equal learning opportunities for children with special needs.
