Education Ministry bans school teams, teachers for violating KSSSA Rules

A number of Secondary Schools’ teams and Teachers have been banned from participating in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games. The bans were issued by the Ministry of Education after the teams and Teachers were found to have violated the KSSSA rules.

Top on the list of banned teams is the former Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association, FEASSSA, hockey champions Sinyolo Girls. The Kisumu County based school has been shown the door after they fielded a player from Kerugoya Girls who had had not met the 90 days rule during last year’s regional games in Homa Bay School.

Also facing the ban is Siaya County’s Barding under 19 football team. The former East Africa Secondary schools games’ champion, Barding, will be in the cold for two years after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in 2019. This followed a success appeal from Kisumu Day who had lost to them during their Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Term Two games final played at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

The Coaches have not been spared, either. But, it is the Simbi Secondary School’s Principal who bears the most brunt of the bans. This is after the Ministry of Education handed him a 5-year ban.

Here is the full list of banned teams:

  • St. Peters Mumias Soccer U19 team has been banned for 2 years. The coach was also handed a two year ban.
  • Kibabii Boys High School’s Soccer Under19 team banned for 2 years.
