The floods that have caused havoc countrywide. Schools have not been spares too.
The Ministry of Education directs schools severely affected by floods to remain closed until the situation is tamed.
Machogu notes several schools had been immensely affected by floods and that learners couldn’t resume with the current situation.
The ministry further states that the said schools would remain closed until alternative infrastructure was set up for learning.
All school heads and parents are also urged to ensure the safety of the pupils and students even as schools resume.
The government further calls on people sheltering in schools to get alternative accommodation ahead of phased reopening.
Field education officers working in areas where schools are hosting displaced people were directed to liaise with local National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to immediately identify alternative accommodation for those affected.
Regional education officers also directed to come up with measures and ensure learning goes on without disruptions.
Among measures recommended by the ministry included resource sharing among neighbouring schools and the use of multi-grade and multi-shift models of providing education.
