Education Ministry releases the 2024 term dates for schools and colleges

The Ministry of Education in Kenya has released the 2024 school academic calendar for pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, and teacher training colleges (TTCs). In the new academic calendar, term 1 will begin on January 8, 2024, and close on April 5, 2024.
Students will then proceed for a three-week long-term 1 holiday beginning on April 8 to April 26. As the school calendar returns to normal, term 1 has 13 weeks, term 2 runs for 14 weeks, and the third term will take 9 weeks.
While releasing the term dates, the CS for Education, Ezekiel Machogu revealed that the 2024 form 1 students will join schools on 15th January 2024.

Revised and Final 2024 School Term Dates and Academic Calendar
The ministry announced that the 2024 Term 1 will open on January 8, 2024, and end on April 5, 2024, after 13 weeks. Students will have a 3-day half-term break from February 29 to March 3, 2024, just in the middle of the term.
The April holidays will begin on April 8 and end on April 26, after 3 weeks. Term 2 2024 Term Dates Term 2 academic calendar will resume on April 29 and end on August 2, 2024. This will take 14 weeks.
The half-term break will run from June 20 to June 23, 2024. On the other hand, the term 2 holiday break will run from August 5 to August 23. The August holidays will take 3 weeks.

Term 3 2024 Term Dates

This term will run for 9 weeks starting from August 26 to October 25. This is no mid-term break for term 3, given its short duration. See Also Kisii Polytechnic Courses, Requirements and Fee Structure Schools will go for the long December holiday starting from October 28 to January 3, 2025.

2020 Term Dates

The Ministry of Education has announced new term dates for the 2020 academic year. In a circular dated 6th September, 2019 , and written by the Principal Secretary, Dr. Belio R. Kipsang, all pre-primary and Primary schools shall open 0n 06/01/2020 for term one. Secondary schools shall also re-open on the same date.

In the Circular sent to all Regional Directors of Education, there shall be 14 weeks in both term one and two for Pre-Primary and Primary schools; a similar number of weeks will be applied in secondary schools. All half terms shall now be at the same time for both Primary and Secondary schools. In a new development half terms for both term one and two have been reduced by two days each to presumably recover the days lost in term 3, this year. This is after the opening date for term three was pushed ahead by one week to allow smooth execution of the 2019 National Housing and Population Census exercise.

Just like it was this year there will be no half term break in third term of 2020.
