The Education Ministry has launched a digital platform aimed at assisting Grade 9 students in transitioning to Senior Schools.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the government has created this new platform to facilitate a smooth shift for Grade 9 learners to Senior Schools as part of the Competency Based Education (CBE) system.
This platform, which is currently operational, enables students to choose their desired career paths and Senior Schools based on their interests, locations, and the available facilities.
Ogamba emphasized that the Ministry of Education has established a robust system that Grade 9 students can use to select their preferred Senior Schools and career options.
He made these remarks on Wednesday, June 25, in Mombasa during the opening of the 48th Annual Kenya Secondary School Heads Association conference.
He further explained that preparations for Grade 10 are progressing well, with necessary assessments being conducted to ensure a smooth placement process for students.
Ogamba highlighted the crucial role of school principals in the ongoing education reforms and encouraged them to take responsibility for the changes being implemented.
“Education is not merely about access; it is about quality,” Ogamba stated, adding, “Every decision you make, every child you mentor, and every teacher you support contributes to building the foundation and future of our Nation.”
He also mentioned that the classrooms created by the new CBE structure would help alleviate overcrowding in Senior Schools.
Ogamba recognized the financial difficulties schools are facing and noted that the government has allocated Sh22 billion this term, including Sh11.6 billion for Free Day Secondary Education.
“Every shilling must be accounted for. You are responsible not only for the children but also for public resources,” Ogamba cautioned.
