Embu County records smooth transition of grade 8 learners to Junior Secondary

Embu County has recorded a smooth transition of all grade 8 learners to Junior Secondary School under the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

County Director of Education Kosgei Kipruto said transition was at 97 percent in 335 schools across the county and learning had been rolled out smoothly.

“We have fully handled and accommodated all learners who have come to their respective schools where they were last year,” he said, noting that only a few had shifted schools.

With respect to infrastructure, the Director said they have been able to complete 137 classrooms under phase one and two last year.

“I can confidently say that the classes have been completed and the learners are already in,” he said while speaking to the press from his office on Wednesday morning.

Additionally, Mr. Kosgei said they are also in the process of constructing 129 new classrooms under phase three and four.

“These are the classes that we have just concluded the tendering process and we are going to construct them within the next four weeks,” he reported, adding that they expect the classes to be in use by the end of this month.

He continued that they have 34 schools across the County with excess classes mostly in Manyatta and Runyenjes Constituencies, noting the areas have no challenges in terms of absorption of grade nine learners.

With regard to textbooks, the Director said all the schools had received all the books for the nine learning areas.

“We do not have any problem with textbooks both for grade nine and the other classes,” he reported.

As for the teachers, he reported that all those that were recently recruited had reported as per the report from the head teachers in the junior schools.
