Everything is ready for the Term 1 Brookside Secondary School Games in Mombasa
After months of planning, the 2025 Brookside Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national term one games are set to begin on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
This year’s event will take place at Shimo la Tewa, Shanzu, and Aga Khan Schools, featuring over 1,200 students competing in athletics, basketball, hockey, cross country, handball, rugby, and swimming.
Rugby 15s, handball, and basketball matches will be held at Shimo La Tewa, while athletics, hockey, and select handball games will occur at Shanzu Teachers College, according to the organizers’ schedule.
Swimming events are scheduled for the Aga Khan Academy on Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11, 2025.
The competitions will run from Tuesday, April 8, to Saturday, April 12, 2025.
As part of the preparations, coordination clinics for referees and umpires began on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Shimo la Tewa School in anticipation of the five-day event.
Participants from all regions are expected to arrive in Mombasa on Sunday, April 6, 2025, just one day before the official opening ceremony.
Renewing rivalries
One of the highly anticipated events is the rugby 15s category, where the defending champions, All Saints Embu, will aim to defend their title vigorously.
All Saints, who are also the East Africa (FEASSSA) champions, have been placed in pool A with hosts Serani Boys, Upper Hill (Nairobi), and Mang’u High (Central).
Pool B consists of Marafa Secondary (Coast), Vihiga Boys (Western), Bwake Boys (Rift Valley), and Kisii School (Nyanza).
Tigoi Girls Hockey team
In girls’ hockey, Tigoi Girls from Western will compete against Ng’iya Girls from Nyanza, St. John’s Kaloleni (Coast), and Mpesa Academy (Central) in Group B.
In the boys’ handball category, the much-anticipated Matiliku Boys are optimistic after being placed in a manageable Group A alongside Sabunley (North Eastern), Manyatta Boys (Nyanza), and Highway Secondary from Nairobi.
Group B includes St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys (Western), Makuyu Boys (Central), Jaribuni Sec (Coast), and St. Albert Kamito from Rift Valley.
Financial support
This announcement comes as the event’s sponsors, Brookside Dairy, have contributed Ksh30 million towards the competition. This funding will cover player kits, trophies, certificates, and other logistical needs for hosting the games.
This financial backing continues the company’s long-standing commitment to sponsoring the games, which began 22 years ago.
During a previous event, Brookside Dairy’s Corporate Communication Manager, Wilson Okong’o, expressed optimism that this partnership will help nurture the next generation of stars in various sports disciplines.
“We are confident that with our investment, the Brookside Term One games will continue to provide a perfect launching pad for careers in sports by harnessing talent in various sports disciplines,” Okong’o told journalists.
