Exclusive: Over 100,000 requests already made for revision of Grade 10 placements.

The Ministry of Education received more than 100,000 requests from parents and learners seeking revisions to Grade 10 placements on the first day of the seven-day review window. This us according to Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok.

Speaking during a routine assessment at Naivasha boys’ boarding school, PS Bitok revealed that as of 4.00 pm on Tuesday, the ministry had processed and approved over 2,000 requests, with more being reviewed as the exercise continues.

“So far, we have received over 100k requests for revising pathways as of 4 pm today, the ministry has approved over 2000,” PS Bitok reported.

He revealed that placement reviews for Category One (C1) schools are being handled centrally in Nairobi, while requests involving schools up to Cluster Four (C4) have been delegated to line officers within the ministry to speed up the process.

PS Bitok acknowledged that the system experienced temporary digital disruptions earlier in the day but confirmed that services had since been fully restored at the Konza data centre, allowing the review process to proceed seamlessly.

“There were slight hiccups over digital detail, but it has been restored at Konza,” he said.

He further urged parents and learners to remain patient, noting that the seven-day review period officially commenced on Tuesday, and all applications would be handled within the given timeframe.

“Parents should be patient as the 7 days commenced today for the revision, and I am asking all of you to take up the period given,” Bitok said.

The Ministry of Education, on Sunday, December 21, announced a seven-day review window for Grade 9 learners’ placement into senior school following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

The ministry aimed to address concerns raised by some parents and candidates dissatisfied with the initial placement.

The inaugural KJSEA examinations were conducted nationwide in November, and the results were released on December 11, 2025.

According to the Ministry, the placement exercise is part of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, which seeks to align learning with the National Development goals, global education trends, and the equipping of learners with the relevant skills and competencies for a competitive local and international job market.

The large number of learners applying for change of grade 10 placement is a clear indication of dissatisfaction with the selection results.
