Fewer than half of eligible students have submitted applications for the 2025 University Placement.

Fewer than half of eligible students have submitted applications for the 2025 University Placement.

Three weeks have passed since the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened the application portal for students seeking admission to higher education institutions.

However, prospective students have been slow to utilize this service; out of an estimated 246,000 eligible students, only 104,000 have applied so far.

With just one week remaining before the portal closes, these figures are concerning for officials at the Ministry of Education.

In an effort to address this lack of engagement, Ministry of Education officials are traveling across the country to inform students and their parents about the importance of registering within the specified timeframe.

Prof. John Oluoch, Director for Placement and Career Development at KUCCPS, stated: “We have sent our officers from Nairobi to all 47 counties to assist with registration… we have not yet reached half of the target, but we remain optimistic about the time left… everything will be fine.”

“This year, we improved our infrastructure, and everything is functioning well. We encourage students to come forward and register.”

In Kisii County, officials had the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, allowing students to get answers to various issues they faced during the registration process.

Students studying medicine at KMTC also took the chance to urge the government to allow them access to higher education funds to support their studies.
