A dormitory at Butere Boys High School in Kakamega County has been destroyed, causing significant damage to students’ properties.

Police Commander Julius Kiptoo confirmed the incident, saying a power surge might have caused the fire.

No casualties or injuries were sustained during the fatal incident.

At the moment, investigations and forensic analysis are being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The SCPC stated that the fire was initially tackled by students who were eager to save their possessions before the fire brigade arrived.

The school administration is working closely with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and is evaluating the extent of the damage to determine the necessary steps for recovery and restoration.

Parents and guardians have been notified, and the school assures the students’ safety.

The administration expresses gratitude to the students who bravely attempted to control the fire and save some of the properties.
