Form four leavers graduate with basic ICT skills from Meru County Library

A group of form four graduates in Meru County has completed a program in basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills, thanks to the Meru County Library and its collaborators.

During the graduation ceremony, Meru County Librarian Richard Wanjohi informed reporters that the 28 participants had completed a six-week training course and are now well-prepared to pursue further education.

Wanjohi noted that the Meru library initiated this program about five years ago and has since trained around 450 form four graduates, helping them adapt to the technological demands of higher education.

“We found that many form four graduates lack ICT skills upon finishing secondary school, which inspired us to offer annual ICT training sessions,” Wanjohi explained.

In addition to ICT training, Wanjohi mentioned that they have partnered with organizations such as Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and Equity Afia, whose professionals provide mentorship on career development and mental health.

“As an information institution, we invite experts to speak to the learners because we want them to be well-rounded individuals. We aim to prepare them for the challenges they may face in higher education,” Wanjohi added.

He also announced that another class would start in two weeks and encouraged more form four graduates to participate.

Ms. Christine Kendi from KEMU expressed her gratitude to the library for this valuable initiative, noting that students lacking these skills often struggle when they enroll at the university.

“Many form four graduates are uncertain about their next steps after secondary school, and the Meru library is doing an excellent job of guiding them toward appropriate career paths,” said Ms. Kendi.

She mentioned that KEMU plans to collaborate with the library in the future to further support their students’ educational growth.
