Form one selection 2023/2024 faces uncertainty as KCPE 2023 Candidates, Parents take Knec to court

In summary:

  • Some KCPE 2023 candidates disagree with Knec over released results
  • Cases filed in court to oppose the results
  • Form one selection underway for 2024 placement.

The selection exercise for 2024 form one faces uncertainties after two parents moved to court on Monday. The agrieved parents, acting on behalf of their kids, want investigations carried out at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) over irregularities in the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2023.

Documents filed in court by parents from Kitengela International School and Set Greenhill Academy Mixed Day and Boarding and Junior School namely Pius Kiio and Everlyn Kemuma Omwoyo respectively claim the KCPE exams results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu were marred with irregularities.

The parents now want court to issue temporary orders stopping declaration of Form One placement results by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

The selection exercise is already underway.

“That ex-parte and pending the hearing and determination of the petition the honorable court be pleased to issue a conservatory order temporarily suspending the 3rd Respondent’s(Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu )declaration of the form one placement exercise slated to begin on November 27, 2023,” the petioners wrote in their plea.

The parents through their lawyer Danstan Omari say they are angered by the massive irregularities and inconsistencies in the 2023 KCPE exams results.

They further argue that it is not possible for students in the same school to score the same marks.

This comes even as the Council reassures the 2023 KCPE candidates that the results in the portal are accurate.

Knec has at the same time asked the candidates to collect their results slips from former primary schools.

In case of errors on the results, the Council has opened a 30-days window for corrections.

The 2024 form one placement results are expected before Christmas so that the parents can plan for reporting of their kids to secondary schools.
