Free K-Gas cylinders promotion: KenolKobil Company speaks out

KenolKobil limited company has issued a warning to gas consumers over a fraudulent gas cylinders promotion. The company that owns one of the leading gas cylinder brands (K-gas) says they are not running any promotion to give away free gas cylinders, currently.

“Please beware of the fake promotion. K-Gas is not giving away free cylinders and the page (running the free gas cylinder give away) does not belong to us or any of our authorized K-Gas dealers,” reads a statement from the company.

A search for company, that is running the fake advertisement, showed that it is registered as K-has and not K-gas.

“We have simplified the online booking or application process to make it fast and easy for you to book the gas cylinders,” reads the now fraudulent message from the company.   To be eligible for a free Gas Cylinder:

According to the advert, one  must have a valid Kenyan National ID and be a Kenyan citizen aged above 18 years to qualify for the free gases.

“You can only book either the 6 kg Gas cylinders or the 13k g gas cylinders depending on your preference. Please note that the Cylinder is already filled with Gas,” adds the advert.

The advert goes on to give finer details on how to book and ‘get’ the 6kg or 13kg cylinder.

APPLICATION FEE

But, it is the application fee that raises eyebrows.

“All applicants are required to pay a delivery fee of ksh 250 for the 6kg gas cylinders and Ksh 350 for the 13 kg gas cylinder. This is however automatically refunded if your booking is rejected. Please do not pay any other fee because the cost of the gas cylinder has been catered for by K-Gas Kenya,” the advert further reads.

K-Gas Purchase Guide

Are you planning to buy a gas new K-gas cylinder? Consider the following guidelines from K-gas:

Always purchase your cooking gas from a branded KenolKobil Service station or an authorised KGas dealer.

You need to check that the quality assurance seal on the valve is not broken or missing.

Ensure the cylinder has the correct weight by confirming the weight of the cylinder at the point of purchase.

On making payment, you must obtain an ETR receipt and an official Station receipt with cylinder serial number and gross weight indicated

Safe use of your new gas

Here are guidelines on how to safely use your new gas cylinder:

• LPG has a characteristic smell to alert you of a leak. If you detect the smell, do not light a fire or operate any electrical switches.
• Open all doors and windows, disconnect the cylinder and place it outside the building.
• Safely check the cylinder for leakages using soapy water.
• If you detect a leak, return the cylinder to the station of purchase.
• If the leak is not on the cylinder, ensure checks are done on the other fittings.
• Always store the cylinder in an upright position and ensure the cooker is higher than the cylinder.
• Use recommended gas fittings. Ensure the hosepipe is replaced every two years and regulator every five years.

LPG Safety – In case of Gas leakage

In case of a gas leakage, follow these guidelines:

• Turn off the regulator and remove regulator from valve..
• Ventilate the building by opening the doors and windows.
• Put off all naked flames.
• Do not switch on or off any electrical appliances, or use the telephone at the
  scene.
• Leave the house immediately and inform your neighbours.

First Aid for Inhalation of LPG Vapour

• Remove casualty to fresh air
• Keep casualty warm.
• If casualty is feeling dizzy, physical support may be necessary.
• If Casualty is breathing, but unconscious place in recovery position.
• If casualty has stopped breathing apply artificial respiration.
• Monitor breathing.
• Call for medical attention immediately.

First Aid for LPG Contact with Skin

• Drench affected parts with water.
• Remove contaminated clothing, rings, watches and etc if possible but do not attempt to do so if they are adhering to the skin.
• Cover with sterile dressing.
• Do not apply ointment or powder.
• Contaminated cloth must be soaked in water and laundered before re-use.

First Aid for LPG Contact with eyes

If, by accident, the gas into your eyes:

• Flush eyes with large volumes of water for at least 15 minutes.
• Cover eyes with sterile dressing.
• Obtain medical attention immediately.

Fire fireghting LPG

• Do not attempt to put off a fire involving LPG.
• Alert the neighbours by shouting fire. fire
• Evacuate the area
• Call the fire brigade.
• Turn off the regulator and remove regulator from valve.
• Ventilate the building by opening the doors and windows.
• Put off all naked flames.
• Do not switch on or off any electrical appliances, or use the telephone at the scene.
• Leave the house immediately and inform your neighbours.
