Good news as TSC confirms all the 46,000 Intern Teachers to Permanent & PensionableTerms

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has converted the employment terms for all the 46,000 teachers from internship contracts to permanent and pensionable terms, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s education sector.

All the 46,000 teachers who have been on internship received appointment letters and are set to begin their permanent roles this month.

This conversion represents the largest number of intern teachers ever confirmed to permanent roles by the Commission.

The transition includes teachers hired at different times over the past year:

– In February 2023, 21,550 junior secondary and 4,000 primary school teachers joined.

– In April 2023, 450 secondary school teachers were added.

– By September 2023, another 18,000 junior secondary and 2,000 primary school interns were recruited

Teachers who have now secured permanent positions will enjoy better benefits, including higher salaries, leave entitlements, comprehensive medical insurance, and access to financial support such as loans.

The confirmation will also come with increased ndeductions towars the Teachers’ Unions, the Social Health Authority, Pay As You Earn and other statutory plus third party deductions.

The Commission will at the same time recruit more teachers to try and bridge the staffing gaps at public schools. Most affected are Junior Secondary Schools whose students-teacher ratio is worrying.
