Higher SHIF/ SHA rates to affect Teachers’ & Civil Servants’ Salaries

Thousands of workers will this month breach the legal requirements that demands they take home at least a third of their salary following a deduction of 2.75 percent of gross pay towards the universal health coverage programme.

The workers will pay the higher rates to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which will today replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)

Employees have been contributing between Sh150 and 5h1,700 towards NHIF.

Example deductions after PAYE, Housing Levy, SHIF, and NSSF include:

For example, a salary of Sh50,000 will result in a net pay of Sh39,273 after all deductions

A salary of Sh100,000 will lead to a net pay of Sh72,335 after all deductions.

A salary of Sh200,000 will lead to a net pay of Sh138,310 after all deductions.

A salary of Sh350,000 will lead to a net pay of Sh237,273 after all deductions.

A salary of Sh500,000 will lead to a net pay of Sh336,235 after all deductions.

A salary of Sh800,000 will lead to a net pay of Sh526,714 after all deductions

A salary of Sh1 million will lead to a net pay of Sh648,178 after all deductions.
