How to change grade 10 Senior School Placement

The Ministry of Education has made it possible for the 2026 Grade 10 Students to change Senior School placements. According to the Ministry, Learners who are not satisfied with the grade 10 placement can apply for consideration in their schools of choice.

This comes after the Ministry finalized placement for grade 10 learners and providing the results to parents and students.

How to change Grade 10 Placement

Parents who wish to request a change of school for their child must submit a formal application through the head of the junior school at least two weeks before the reporting date.

Senior schools must first declare available spaces through their respective county directors of education. The Ministry emphasised that the school replacement process will only occur once and cannot be reversed once completed.

Once a request for school transfer is approved, the Ministry will issue joining instructions online. “At no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases,” the Ministry warned.

All officials involved in the placement process are expected to collaborate to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible transition for students moving from junior to senior secondary schools.

Learners are expected to join their respective senior secondary schools starting Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the Ministry, the placement process was fully automated and carefully considered students’ exam results, individual preferences, psychometric evaluations, equity, and the capacity of schools.

“The top performers in each STEM, social science, and arts track will get priority placement in boarding schools of their choice,” the Ministry confirmed.

The KJSEA 2025 examinations, conducted from October 27 to November 3, assessed the readiness of the first cohort under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

Out of the total 1,130,459 candidates, 578,630 were male, and 551,829 were female, according to the Ministry’s records.
