The Social Health Authority (SHA) is the government agency established to oversee and regulate Kenya’s new healthcare financing system. It replaces the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and is responsible for managing the new health insurance structure under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) is the primary health insurance scheme under SHA. It is designed to ensure that all Kenyans, including those in the informal sector and vulnerable groups, have access to affordable and quality healthcare.

Registering for the Social Health Authority (SHA) in Kenya is now easier than ever. Follow these simple steps to complete your registration and start accessing healthcare services.

Visit SHA website

Step 1: Dial 147#

On your mobile phone, *dial 147# and follow the prompts.

Select the relevant options to proceed with registration.

Agree to the terms and conditions

Step 2: Visit the SHA Website

Open your browser and go to afyayangu.go.ke.

Click on “Register” to create your SHA profile.

Step 3: Enter Your ID and Phone Number

Provide your National ID number and phone number for verification.

A One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your phone to confirm your details.

Step 4: Create Your Digital Signature/PIN

Set up a secure PIN or digital signature, which will be used for approval during sign-in and transactions.

Step 5: Complete Your Profile

Fill in your county, sub-county, and ward details accurately to finalize your SHA profile.

Step 6: Means Testing for Unemployed or Self-Employed Individuals

If you are unemployed or self-employed, you will undergo a quick means test to determine your premium rate.

Visit a cyber café if you need assistance with the means test process.

Step 7: Pay Your Premium via MPESA

Once registration is complete, make your payment via MPESA using the following details:

Paybill Number: 200222

Account Number: Your National ID Number

Step 8: Access Healthcare Services

After successful payment, you will be eligible for SHA healthcare services.
