Huawei DigiTruck Celebrates 290 Graduates in Digital Skills in Homa Bay
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo joined Huawei Technologies to celebrate the graduation of 290 participants from the Huawei DigiTruck digital skills training program.
The ceremony took place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Oriwo Boys High School in Homa Bay, attended by various leaders, including National Youth Council CEO Gloria Wawira, along with local leaders and community members.
The six-week training program resulted in the graduation of 290 individuals, comprising 143 women and 147 men.
The participants acquired vital skills to access online job opportunities, expand their businesses, and confidently navigate the digital landscape.
By providing digital education to underserved communities, the DigiTruck aims to close the digital divide and empower individuals to leverage technology effectively.
Since its launch in 2019, the DigiTruck has trained over 6,030 young people across 36 counties, including Trans Nzoia, Kiambu, Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Marsabit, and now Homa Bay.
In 2024 alone, the program trained 1,648 individuals, with 906 being women, highlighting its dedication to gender inclusivity and digital equity.
This initiative aligns with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, emphasizing the digital superhighway and creative economy.
Skills offered through the Huawei program include computer literacy, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and online safety, equipping participants to succeed in the digital economy.
“Digital skills are no longer optional—they are essential,” Omollo stated. “Whether launching an online business, working remotely, or utilizing technology, digital literacy opens up opportunities.”
A significant focus of the program was on online safety, teaching participants how to protect personal information, recognize potential scams, and use the internet responsibly.
“In addition to our University Training program with over 60 universities and TVETs, we also operate the DigiTruck to reach youth outside formal education and in rural areas,” said Adam Lane, Huawei’s Government Affairs and Policy Director. “I am proud that we have achieved an equal gender distribution among trainees, as digital skills are crucial for everyone in today’s economy.”
Gloria Wawira, CEO of the National Youth Council, congratulated the graduates and encouraged more young people to take advantage of initiatives like Ajira Digital to empower themselves.
The graduation signifies a new beginning for the trainees, who received certificates recognizing their skills and enabling them to pursue digital entrepreneurship.
