About JKF Scholarships

Founded in 1968, the JKF Scholarship Programme improves access to education and transition through provision of scholarships and mentorship to academically promising Kenyan orphans and children from poor vulnerable backgrounds in public secondary schools. The scholarship covers tuition and uniform as per the scholarship policy.

In full recognition of the Kenya Constitution, 2010, affirmative action is accorded priority during selection.

Over 10,000 students have benefitted from the Programme since its inception. We pride ourselves on being the only public institution in Kenya that ploughs its profits towards this noble cause.

JKF partners with the following institutions to make Programme reach out to as many beneficiaries as possible: The Ministry of Education, East Africa Philanthropic Network, and Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central. The number of beneficiaries is anticipated to reach 25 per county by 2022.

Applications are received annually from bright and academically promising needy students who meet the minimum eligibility criteria from all counties.

Selection is through a rigorous interview process by a panel comprising of the JKF staff, Ministry of Education officials, JKF alumni, and primary school head teachers.

Home visits are carried out by the JKF staff, care caution taken to have staff visit regions other than their home areas for purposes of objectivity and impartiality.

JKF is concerned about the success of its beneficiaries through school-based and group mentorship. Beneficiaries get support through encouragement on academic performance and life skills.
