Joy as schools set to receive free water tanks

Twenty-seven Kirinyaga Central secondary schools will receive water tanks to ensure sufficient water supply for their operations.

At a function led by Hon. Joseph Gachoki Gitari at the NG-CDF offices, the tanks will be distributed to respective schools within the constituency.

“This project ensures schools have sufficient water access, collects rainy water, minimizes water wastage, and saves money, promoting education and allowing schools to focus on other important matters,” said Hon. Gachoki.

Water tanks ready for distribution to schools

Hon. Gachoki plans to install a 10,000-litre tank in schools, serving approximately 500 students daily, alongside gutters for rooftop water collection during rain.

The project aims to ensure students’ health and cleanliness by providing water, curbing diseases like kwashiorkor and diarrhea, and maintaining cleanliness, as per Hon. Gachoki.

He urged schools not benefiting from tank supply to be patient and assured that they will be considered in the next fiscal year.

Hon. Gachoki also added that the schools will not only depend on rainy water but will also use the tanks to have a central place to store water when they get it from water suppliers and water projects, helping them treat it before use.

Hon. Gachoki endorsed the NG-CDF, claiming it has significantly impacted society and supported numerous projects across the country.

“The NG-CDF, currently at 2026, requires a new law to protect it, requiring President’s approval, as it is unlikely to remain in its current location,” said Hon. Gachoki.

Principal Emilio Njeru of Kiandieri Secondary School lauds the project as a significant achievement in enhancing school hygiene. Whereas, Njeru schools are implementing tanks to save money on water purchases, as they have been burdened by the surrounding water project.

“Over a time we have had a challenge of clean water that we get from projects and supplies. We have water projects, and many times that water we get from water projects is never treated. When we have water in a mood like this, we assure you we are going to treat that water and supply our students with clean water,” says Njeru.

Lastly, Njeru said it is an advantage to the schools since they will be having water coming from the same point, thus making it reliable when students need to use it.
