In 1946, Kagumo high became one of the first schools in Kenya to allow native black Africans to sit for university level entrance exams. As such, it is considered one of the best high schools in Kenya.

Being a national school, admissions to this institution are on a competitive basis. Form one admissions are done by the Education Ministry. You can join the school via interview sessions, though. Contact or visit the school for more information.
The school has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams. In the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams the school registered a total of 233 candidates who managed to score a mean of B+ (plus); with a performance index of 67.992. In 2019, the school had a total candidature of 308 students.
