Kapsabet Boys to hold this year’s National Maths Contest- Details

Kapsabet Boys High School in partnership with Strathmore University will hold the 19th edition of annual Mathematics Contest set to take place on Saturday.

The main objective of the endeavour is to create an avenue for learners to showcase their prowess in the subject and boost their confidence in Mathematics.

More than 300 schools’ countrywide are expected to participate in the contest comprising of National, Extra County, County schools. The schools that are to participate are required to register before the D-day.

According to the Institution’s Head of Maths Department Oliver Toroitich, the contest will provide a forum for interaction, exchange of ideas, generating and sustaining interest in Mathematics over the years.

“So far we have about 100 schools among them Nairobi school, Kenya High and Alliance High school which have so far registered for the contest,” he said.

Kipchumba Korir, a mathematics teacher noted that the cardinal goal of the contest is to change the attitude that only a certain calibre of students can excel in mathematics and build the interest in mathematics.

The competition will be based on two categories, namely senior and junior. Each school will present a team of 10 participants in the senior category comprising six Form-four students and four Form-three students and the Junior Category will comprises of six Form-two students and four Form-ones.

“The results and awards will be presented on the same day,” he said at Kapsabet boys school ground. Korir stated that a school may register as many teams as they wish adding that registration fee is Sh2500 per team.

At the end of the contest, the best students will be awarded on different categories among them best male and female students, best boys school, best girls school, best day school, best mixed school and best school overall

Strathmore University will sponsor the best students in both gender for a Diploma Course of their choice at their university. This sponsorship is reserved for best Form 4 students.
