TRENDS IN KCSE SERIES:

The Samaritan. Major conflicts:

 Mossi vs Nicole

 Mossi vs Ramdaye, Seymour, Ted and Basdeo

 Mossi vs Judje Ian Jaden

 Nicole vs Inspector Bembe

 Nicole vs Mrs Narine

 Nicole Vs Alvita and Montano

 Leaders vs Technology

 Citizens vs leaders

Consider the genesis of, the building, attempts to resolve, climax, lesson learnt from the conflicts.

 Consider the troubles Nicole goes through and how her strength in character helps her overcome.

 If question about virtues, only Nicole, the protagonist to score.

 Find four places Nicole goes through trouble but wins. These may be:

 Nicole and Mossi, Nicole and Bembe, Nicole and Narine, Nicole and pleas from Alvita and Montano

 Nicole’s strengths: Assertive, reasonable, courageous, innovative, non-compromising, determined.
If the question is about vices, then the many antagonists will score.

 These means bring out evil things done by leaders, and like it to either leader suffering or citizen’s suffering.

 Evil leaders include Ramdaye, Seymour, Ted, Jaden and Bembe. (don’t be rush on Mossi, Harvester, Basdeo)

 Note all the evil things each of these leaders does, and how he suffers in the end.

 The suffering of leaders does not deal with the final arrest alone. Talk about the anxiety, fear, broken family, ill health like Ted, Stomach problems like loss of appetite, fear of Baneta Express Prison

 Include stage directions like Jaden holding his stomach with both hands,
If the question is about elected leaders, the only Mossi, Ramdaye, Seymour, Ted and Basdeo are electe leaders. Bring out citizens knowledge of the evils, but going ahead to vote them, and the suffering.

If the question is about technology, look at the good part of technology. Alvitas vision of a promising future to take more lead.

Know about the characters: Mossi -au-Tunya: Mayor of Maracas Municipality.

 Orders Harvester to buy all newspapers

 Admits to corruption: the bread story

 Tries to bribe Nicole

 Runs a criminal gang, Red Eagles, headed by Black Man

 Uses violence, intimidation, bribery and pleas to rule

 Blackmails Jaden to support him.
Suffering
 Fears Baneta Express prison

 Losses appetite. Cannot eat anything.

 Arrested to answer to charges of corruption and misuse of power.

 Temporarily losses consciousness when he learns of vote of no confidence in him.

Bembe: Inspector general of Police, Maracas Municipality

 Owns Madingo Golf Club, build on grabbed Maracas University land, build using proceeds of corruption collected on the roads by the police.

 The University land was sold to him by Ramdaye

 Helps Mossi to stop vote of no confidence

 Accused of many other crimes, including peddling drugs, violation of human rights, and extortion.

 Sends goons to steal a generator at Sagrada Secondary School, but they fail.  He arrests Nicole, takes her to court, but she is released.

Suffering:

 He is ever worried about going to jail. He would rather die than be a convict or homeless person

 Fears loosing Madingo Golf Club, and the home adjacent to it. They are his only investments.

 His bosses summon him to the headquarters on the account of Nicole’s arrest.

 Drifts into a comma on learning about his accusations on the Samaritan.

 He steps on his shoe laces, gets entangled, falls badly, hurting his knees.

 He is arrested together with other leaders.

Jaden: the principal judge, Maracas Municipality.

 Sells justice like cabbage. Litigants give him money to determine cases in their favour.

 Uses mistress, Ivy to get tenders

 Prime Orchard farm, and Vertebrate Past Control

 Imports grains.

 Has server ulcers.

 Regrets getting into corruption

 Cathches smell of sewer rats.

 Is later arrested

Ramdaye: Deputy mayor, and Municipal Secretary in charge of Development and physical infrastructure.

 He embezzles all money meant for roads

 Wants to topple Mayor Mossi. To become mayor

 All his family doing business with the municipality

 Prints 10 title deeds then sells the same land to 10 different people

 Cons people.

Seymour: Secretary Department of Planning and development.

 Delays in approval of housing plans

 Sells drugs, runs a criminal gang Black Swine pg 66. He is dangerous

 All his family are on drugs.

Ted. Municipal Secretary in charge of health and Environment.

 Funny fashion, hairstyle, appeals to youth

 Eats a whole hospital. No health centers ever build, yet bills the municipality huge sums evety year.

 As deejay, pirates people’s music.

 Is ever drunk. Looks sickly.

 Responsible for noise pollution.
