Kemeloi Boys High School’s Location
Kemeloi Boys High School is located in Nandi County in the Rift Valley region of Kenya. It was established in the 1960s, shortly after Kenya gained independence in 1963.
The school was started during a national effort to expand secondary education so that more Kenyan boys, especially in rural areas, could access learning opportunities beyond primary school.
The school was founded through a combination of government support and local community initiative. Its main purpose was to provide affordable secondary education to boys from Kemeloi and surrounding areas in Nandi County. At the beginning, the school had very humble beginnings, with a small number of students, a few teachers, and basic learning facilities such as simple classrooms.
During its early years, Kemeloi Boys operated mainly as a day secondary school, meaning students would attend classes during the day and return home in the evening. Most learners came from nearby villages, and the school played an important role in improving literacy and education levels in the local community.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the school began to expand steadily. Student enrollment increased as more families recognized the importance of secondary education. To support this growth, more classrooms were built, additional teachers were employed, and learning resources were gradually improved. During this period, the school also started developing boarding facilities, allowing it to admit students from a wider area beyond Kemeloi.
From the 1990s onwards, Kemeloi Boys High School continued to grow in both size and academic performance. It improved its results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations and strengthened discipline among students. The school also expanded its curriculum and co-curricular activities, including sports and clubs, to support the overall development of learners.
In recent years, the school has continued to modernize by improving infrastructure, strengthening academic programs, and increasing student enrollment. It remains an important institution in Nandi County, known for producing disciplined and hardworking students.
