Kiharu day secondary school principals are on vacation abroad: Discover the reasons
Twelve principals are enjoying a holiday in Dubai and Malaysia, organized by MP Ndindi Nyoro.
The Kiharu MP initiated a program last year where principals of the best-performing and most-improved day secondary schools in each of the six wards receive a holiday as a reward.
The goal was to foster competition among the schools.
One of the principals, having led the way for two consecutive years, was given a different option.
“Mukangu secondary school principal already visited Dubai last year after his school excelled in his ward and excelled again this year, so instead of returning to Dubai, he opted for a different location,” Nyoro explained.
“We stated we’d never penalize success. Even if a principal excels every year, they will benefit from this program each time. ”
The principals will spend five days in their holiday destination, after which they will be transported back to their homes, with all expenses covered.
The holidays aim to appreciate the teachers for leading their schools to enhanced performance, Nyoro mentioned, while motivating their peers to improve.
Teachers whose subjects showed the most improvement and best performance will be taken for holidays in Mombasa.
“They take the Standard Gauge Railway to Mombasa, stay there for five days, and then we fly them back to Nairobi and return them to their homes. ”
The MP, who spoke at Ihura stadium on Thursday, remarked that the program is part of the Kiharu Fanikisha initiative, which also supports youth through short courses at local vocational training institutes.
“However, since the motivation program cannot be funded by NGCDF, we seek additional funds from different sources to support it. ”
The MP addressed the graduation ceremony of 1,200 youth who completed four-month free courses in cosmetology, driving, and hospitality.
The MP emphasized that the training is designed to empower local youths and enhance their employability, noting that young individuals have shown great interest in technical skills that are increasingly in demand in the job market.
