Kitondo School’s Complete Details & Reviews

History and Development of Kitondo School

Kitondo School is a government-aided boys’ boarding school located in Makueni County, Kenya. The school has a rich history that reflects its steady growth from a humble community initiative into a respected extra-county institution known for both academic and co-curricular excellence.

The school was founded in 1970 as a coeducational Harambee institution under the sponsorship of the Africa Inland Church (A.I.C). Its establishment was driven by community effort and the need to expand access to secondary education in the region.

In 1982, the institution was upgraded to a government-aided school, marking an important step in its development and formal integration into the national education system.

A major transformation occurred in 1987 when the girls’ wing was separated to form Kisau Girls Secondary School. Following this change, Kitondo School became exclusively a boys’ boarding institution. Since then, it has continued to grow in reputation, particularly for its strong academic performance, including notable results such as a mean score of 9.0 in the 2005 national examinations.

Kitondo School’s Motto

Guided by the motto, “Determined to serve, Committed to excellence,” the school continues to pursue improvement through its 2021–2025 strategic plan. This plan focuses on strengthening infrastructure, enhancing academic performance, and promoting overall institutional development.

Through these efforts, Kitondo School remains dedicated to nurturing disciplined, skilled, and well-rounded students ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
