KMTC new Chief Executive Officer

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board Chairperson Amb. Zachary Muburi-Muita announced Thursday that Dr. Kelly Oluoch has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the College, effective May 19, 2022.

Dr. Oluoch was selected from a field of more than 66 candidates following a rigorous recruitment exercise.

“I take this appointment with great honour and humility. I thank the Almighty God for this chance. I thank the Board of Directors for putting trust in me,” he said.

“I know I have a huge task ahead of me. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board, Management, staff and students to create an enabling environment that supports teaching and learning,” he added.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Oluoch held the CEO position in an acting capacity following the expiry of the term of the previous CEO Prof. Michael Kiptoo, in November 2021.

Dr. Oluoch previously served as the Deputy Director of Finance, Planning and Administration; Principal Lake Victoria and Kisumu Campuses; Deputy Head of Pharmacy Department and Head of Pharmacy Department (Machakos Campus).

He started his career as a Pharmacist in Charge at Marsabit District Hospital before his employment at the College.

Dr. Oluoch holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, Strategic Management option from the University of Nairobi and in Biotechnology, Innovation and Regulatory Pharmacy from Purdue University; a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology, Innovation and Regulatory Pharmacy from Purdue University.

Others include, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nairobi; a Diploma in Industrial Pharmacy and Drug Discovery from Purdue (USA) and Howard University (USA); a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education and a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy from Dr. MGR Medical University.

He has conducted and completed several research projects and is currently engaged in many others.

He has also authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications.

Amb. Muita challenged Dr. Oluoch to transform the College, noting that the College is endowed with brilliant minds capable of taking the institution to greater heights.

“The first and main task ahead of you is on promoting teaching and learning. I urge all of us to rethink managing student and staff rations,” he said.

Board Director Jennifer Kibagendi noted that the Board has delivered on a big task of recruiting a CEO for the College.

“We have given you the best candidate, and I urge you to support him,” she said.

The announcement came during a three-day Academic Council meeting which kicked off on Wednesday (May 18) at the College Headquarters in Nairobi.
