KMTC Strengthens Partnership with Garissa County to Support Student Welfare

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is deepening its collaboration with Garissa County to further enhance student welfare and access to quality medical education in the North Eastern region.

On Tuesday, 10th June 2025, a delegation led by Board Chair Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot and CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch met with Garissa Governor H.E. Nathif Jama for strategic discussions focused on supporting students and expanding opportunities for learning.

The County Government of Garissa has played a key role in KMTC’s growth, from providing land to supporting the establishment of the Garissa campus. Building on this foundation, KMTC and the County are now working together to make medical education even more accessible and student-friendly.

During the meeting, Mr. Cheruiyot encouraged the County to further strengthen academic support by deploying more healthcare professionals and instructors, particularly for specialized programs such as Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine (OTM) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

He also proposed collaboration in launching Higher National Diploma programs in key areas like Renal Nursing and Critical Care Nursing, which are essential for advancing local healthcare services.
Dr. Oluoch expressed appreciation for Garissa County’s continued support and highlighted the importance of reducing financial barriers for students, especially regarding clinical placements. He emphasized the College’s commitment to ensuring that all students can learn in a safe and supportive environment.

Governor Nathif Jama reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting KMTC and outlined several initiatives to enhance the student experience. These include reviewing clinical placement fees, providing free access to all clinical training sites in the county, and improving campus infrastructure such as roads and lighting to ensure safety and mobility.

The Governor also reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering learning environment for all students.
“Our partnership with KMTC is about more than education,” Governor Jama said. “It’s about creating opportunities for students to succeed and contribute meaningfully to our communities.
