The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has unveiled an opportunity for college tutors to receive training as assessors for Teacher Education assessments.
In a notice released on Tuesday, April 1, KNEC indicated that the training aims to equip tutors with essential skills for evaluating assessments in the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) program.
Additionally, tutors will be trained to assess the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), and Diploma in Technical Education (DTE).
The training fee has been set at Ksh10,500, payable only by those candidates who are shortlisted. Notifications will be sent via SMS and through the official KNEC portal.
KNEC stated that the program will include both online and in-person training, with further details regarding access to materials and locations for in-person sessions to be provided later.
To be eligible, candidates must be active tutors or lecturers at a teacher training college, university, or TVET institution. They must also be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), possess at least a Degree in Education, and have a minimum of three years of experience in teacher training.
Furthermore, interested tutors should not be facing any disciplinary action from TSC, must be under 50 years of age, and should have a recommendation from their institution’s head.
KNEC has instructed applicants to register through the KNEC examiners’ portal at https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke, where they can submit their information and apply for their specific areas of expertise.
Tutors who have already been trained and are listed in the KNEC database of examiners are advised not to apply. Those without existing accounts will need to create one before proceeding with their application.
Training will cover various subjects under the DPTE, DECTE, DTE, and DSTE categories, including English, Mathematics, Environmental Education, and Music. Additional subjects will include Fine Art, Performing Arts, Physics, and specialized areas such as Mechatronics, Media Technology, and Textile Design Technology.
Upon successful completion of the training, KNEC will recruit assessors based on subject requirements and available positions.
