KNEC Calls for Teachers from Primary, Junior, and Senior Schools to Train in Creating Quality CBC Test Items

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is inviting qualified educators to apply for training opportunities focused on developing quality test items to effectively implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In a notice issued on April 2, KNEC emphasized that these skills are essential for teachers at the primary, junior, and senior school levels, as well as for those involved in teacher training.

“The Council invites qualified teachers and teacher educators to apply for training in creating quality test items for the effective implementation of Competency-Based Assessment in basic education and teacher training,” stated part of the notice.

KNEC mentioned that trained teachers and educators may be contracted as needed.

The KNEC offices are located in Nairobi. Once trained, participants will have opportunities for occasional contracts with KNEC.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate integrity and professionalism, and be experts or specialists in the subjects for which they seek training.

Eligibility is limited to teachers in primary grades 4, 5, and 6; junior school grades 7 and 8; and those currently teaching at secondary schools who will instruct grade 10 in senior school by 2026.

Teachers in teacher training colleges for both the Diploma in Teacher Education—Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE-PP&P) and Diploma in Secondary Teacher Training (DSTE) are also eligible, along with those in Stage-Based Pathways (Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational Levels).

Additionally, applicants should possess the relevant academic and professional qualifications, be familiar with the curriculum content in their specialized subjects, have at least three years of teaching experience, be registered with the Teachers Service Commission, and receive a recommendation from their institution’s head.

Application Process

All applications must be submitted online via the KNEC website by April 11. Applicants should carefully read the instructions, provide all required information, and upload necessary documents.

Documents should be submitted as a single continuous PDF file.

Only successful candidates will be contacted via the phone numbers or email addresses they provide.

Teachers who have previously undergone KNEC training in item writing are not eligible to apply.

The training will be conducted online.
