KNEC Launches July KCSE Exam Series and Orbit Readers for Visually Impaired Students

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the July series of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang introduced the Orbit Readers for visually impaired candidates and the e-assessment format for KCSE Computer Studies.

Kipsang stated that these initiatives are intended to improve the administration and inclusivity of national examinations.

The additional exam period aims to provide candidates with more flexibility, allowing them to select a schedule that aligns with their academic readiness.

During the announcement of the 2024 KCSE results, Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos mentioned that the mid-year exams will commence in July 2025, with results anticipated in August.

“This initiative provides an opportunity for those looking to enhance their previous KCSE scores or for individuals who missed the exams due to unforeseen circumstances to retake them,” the CS noted.

Kipsang highlighted that the introduction of Orbit Readers for visually impaired candidates will foster inclusivity, enabling these candidates to participate more effectively in exams and assessments.

The Orbit Reader functions as a braille display, book reader, and note-taker, helping to alleviate exam-related stress for visually impaired students.

Additionally, Kipsang explained that the KCSE Computer Studies Examination will transition to an electronic assessment format, reflecting the changing digital landscape and ensuring candidates are adept in modern computing environments.

KNEC has organized a series of online briefings and sensitization meetings with key stakeholders to communicate and implement these changes effectively.

These meetings are designed to facilitate a smooth transition to the new examination formats and the effective use of assistive technologies, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of education in Kenya.

Stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate in the scheduled meetings, with access links and additional information to be shared a day before each session.

The Ministry of Education’s recent initiatives underscore its dedication to enhancing educational quality and accessibility in Kenya, ensuring that every learner, regardless of their circumstances, has an equal chance to succeed.
