KNEC Sets Deadlines for 2025 CBC Assessments in July and August

KNEC Sets Deadlines for 2025 CBC Assessments in July and August

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced important dates for the 2025 school-based projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, 8, stage-based learners, and candidates of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

In a notice issued on Monday, KNEC stated that schools must conduct the assessments and upload the results to the CBA portal by July 31 for Grades 3, 7, 8, and stage-based learners, and by August 30 for KJSEA candidates.

“The projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, and 8, as well as stage-based pathways and KJSEA, have been made available on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal (https://cba.knec.ac.ke) for schools to access,” the council noted.

Schools are required to carry out the tasks and ensure that scores for all students are uploaded within the specified deadlines. KNEC emphasized that teachers will evaluate students according to the official guidelines provided by the council.

“Schools must administer the projects and performance tasks and upload scores for all learners on the portal by the following deadlines: July 31, 2025, for Grades 3, 7, and 8, and stage-based pathways, and August 30, 2025, for KJSEA projects,” KNEC stated.

The council also warned that failing to meet these deadlines, particularly for KJSEA scores, would incur financial penalties.

“A fine of Sh500 per candidate will be charged for any KJSEA project uploads submitted after the deadline,” the notice indicated.

Headteachers are also responsible for keeping records and retaining evidence from the project assessments for accountability and future reference.

KNEC advised that materials needed for the assessments should be sourced from the local school environment or improvised as much as possible.

KJSEA is a national exam introduced as part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to evaluate students at the end of Grade 9, marking their transition from junior to senior school.

Over 1.2 million Grade 9 students are expected to take the KJSEA in November as they prepare to move on to senior school next year.
