Knec to release KCSE 2024 Certificates this week: CS Ogamba announces

The Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogomba, announced that the government will release the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates next week. During a speech in Kisii on Sunday, April 27, he emphasized the importance of principals ensuring that students collect their certificates, which are crucial for accessing opportunities after graduation.

Ogomba urged teachers to encourage students to pick up their certificates to help them secure jobs and other prospects. He also reminded guardians to ensure that students enroll in university before the April 30, 2025 deadline, noting that current enrollment stands at 72 percent for those who achieved a grade of C+ and above.

In 2024, 962,512 students took the KCSE exams, with 246,391 achieving the qualifying grades for university admission. Additionally, Ogomba announced a crackdown on principals who withhold national examination certificates due to fee disputes, stating that action will be taken against those who do not comply with the directive to release the certificates.

This statement follows a warning from government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, who highlighted that withholding certificates is illegal and undermines the education system. He affirmed that the government will take strict measures against schools that continue this practice.

Ogomba also mentioned plans for students to collect their certificates from subcounty education offices instead of their former schools.
