KSSSA School Games: Coach Erima aims for a second consecutive national title with Tigoi Girls

Moses Erima, the head coach of Tigoi Girls’ hockey team, is optimistic about defending their national title at the upcoming Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One Games, scheduled for April 7-12 at Shanzu TTC in Mombasa.

The Western region champions secured their spot in the nationals two weeks ago by defeating Misikhu Girls 1-0, and Erima reports that preparations are in full swing to reclaim the title.

“We’ve trained diligently. We started our preparations right after the regional games concluded. We’ve also engaged in friendly matches with various teams, and the girls are in excellent condition,” Erima told Citizen Digital.

Although they have lost six first-team players, Erima remains confident in their ability to succeed, urging his team to stay focused and not become complacent in the face of tough competition ahead.

“We lost six players from last year’s championship-winning team, but I’m pleased with their replacements, who have adapted well and clearly possess quality. I have no doubt they will perform admirably and bring the title back home.”

Regarding the challenge posed by new entrants Ng’iya Girls, who recently defeated their rivals Nyamira Girls, Erima expressed that they are not overly concerned but will remain vigilant when facing them.

“We have previously played Ng’iya in friendly matches and are aware of their capabilities. We will not underestimate them. Every team is a formidable opponent, and we must bring our best performance to every match,” Erima emphasized.

The Vihiga-based team understands the challenge of replicating last year’s success, especially with East African champions St. Josephs Kitale also presenting a significant threat.

Tigoi is in pool B alongside hosts St. John’s Kaloleni, Central Region powerhouses Mpesa Foundation Academy, and Nyanza’s Ng’iya Girls, who surprised former East African champions Nyamira Girls to secure their national spot.
