KSSSA School Games: EA Hockey Champions St. Joseph Girls Kitale Aim for Elusive National Title

The East Africa hockey champions, St. Joseph Girls Kitale, are on a mission. The formidable team from the Rift Valley is determined to secure the elusive KSSSA National hockey girls title this year when the Term One finals commence next month at Shanzu TTC in Mombasa.

Known as JOGA, St. Joseph averaged an impressive 13.8 goals per match during the Rift Valley Region School Games held in Eldoret earlier this month and are confident in their chances of victory.

In a conversation with sports journalists, JOGA’s head coach, John Lusaka, emphasized their improved organization and strong team chemistry, which enhances their offensive play. He believes this will help them score the goals necessary for success.

JOGA, who netted 69 goals in the regional finals, will compete against hosts St. Charles Lwanga, AIC Nyayo, and Mwiki Secondary School in Group A.

“It has been an outstanding year for us. The girls are performing exceptionally well, scoring freely, and I expect this to continue in Mombasa. Our goal remains the same: to win the national trophy. Last year, we returned with a bronze medal, but our quality was on display in Uganda when we secured the East African title. We aim to replicate that success while also claiming the national trophy,” Lusaka stated.

St. Joseph dominated Nakuru Girls 18-0 in the finals to clinch the Rift Valley Region hockey girls title earlier this month, following a 9-1 victory over Moi Kaptagat in the semifinals and a 15-0 win against Tengecha in the quarterfinals. In the preliminary rounds, JOGA achieved a 13-0 win over Ndururumo and a 15-0 victory against Baracka School Kajiado.

Meanwhile, the defending national champions, Tigoi Girls, will be eager to retain their title. The Western Region powerhouses will lead Group B alongside the formidable Ng’iya Girls from Siaya, St. John’s Kaloleni, the Coast Region runners-up, and Mpesa Academy from Central.
