Kimilili Boys, Butere Girls defend regional titles

St. Lukes Kimilili Boys from Bungoma County has defended the regional championship in handball after defeating Butula Boys 10-1 in the just-concluded Western Regional Secondary Schools term 1 games that were held in Busia County on Saturday.

Speaking after the win, the School Principal, Innocent Siro, said their target is the East Africa Games, urging the Handball Federation to help in nurturing talents that are available.

“These boys are playing in the national league, and that’s why they are so experienced. Our target is the East Africa Games tournament. We are going to the nationals just to confirm that we are the champions. We have many talents, and the Kenya Handball Federation needs to put more effort into nurturing these talents,” he said.

Moi Girls Kamusinga from Bungoma County became the handball girls champions after defeating Mukumu Girls 27-11.

In the playoff match, Lusengeli Secondary from Vihiga County clinched the third position after defeating Milima Friends Secondary 21-13.

In Rugby 15’s, Vihiga High School took the top position after defeating St Peters Mumias 3-0 in the final that was played at Mundika Secondary.

In the playoff match, Musingu Boys defeated Bungoma High School 9-6. Vihiga had defeated Musingu 20-0 to book a space in the final, while St. Peters Mumias defeated Bungoma 7-3 in the second semifinal.

Butere Girls have retained their championship in basketball after defeating Tigoi Girls from Vihiga County 79-29. Sirakalu Secondary from Bungoma finished in third position after defeating Lwanya Girls from Busia 34-31.

In the boy’s category, the defending champions, Sigalame High School from Busia County, were defeated by Friends School Kamusinga 46-45. The third position was clinched by St. Peters Mumias after winning 34-25 against Mukumu Boys.

Tigoi Girls defeated Muisikhu Girls 1-0 to become the champions in hockey. Nangili Girls from Bungoma County won the play-off after defeating Kingandole from Busia County 1-0. In the boy’s category, Musingu Boys emerged the champions after beating Friends School Kamusinga 1-0.

The champions in every category booked a space at the National finals that will be held in Mombasa County next month.

The final ranking as per the county level ranked Bungoma County at the lead with 884 points, followed by Kakamega County with 505 points. Vihiga County was ranked third with 366, while Busia became the last with 346 points.
