The rise of Dr. Aggrey School as a Basketball Power House

The mention of Dr. Aggrey elicits excitement in the secondary schools’ sporting world. A maiden appearance and clinching the Boys’ Basketball gold medal, at the 2022 KSSSA National games, is no mean achievement.

Located in Taita Taveta County of the Coastal region, Dr Aggrey Boys High School has a student population of 1,800. The school’s recent successes can be attributed to the Principal and head coach; Robert Aran Maima. His past glorious moments at Shimba Hills and Kaya Tiwi in girls’ basketball and netball speaks volumes about his abilities.

Off the fields of play, DrAggrey, is equally an academic giant at the Coastal region; having posted a mean of 8.6 at the 2022 KCSE exams.

The Basketball team is coached by Kevin Maima (Aran Junior) who was able to guide the team to their maiden KSSSA title in 2022, at Nakuru High. This year, the school has already booked a ticket to the East Africa School Games (FEASSSA) after picking a bronze medal.

Reasons behind their success.

-The school principal had been very instrumental and supportive.
-They are the reigning Champs of the Mombasa basketball league (2023)
-The principal is also very strict when it comes to academics. Consequently, the players are forced to balance both academics and sports.

They are targeting to clinch the FEASSA title this year and also reclaim the KSSSA National title; next year. Last year, they narrowly lost to Uganda’s Buddo at the hotly contested final.

KSSSA congratulates you.
