KUCCPS Student Portal, Courses application guide and requirements

EDUCATION COURSES REQUIREMENTS & INSTITUTIONS

Education courses train you to become a teacher, lecturer, education officer, or school administrator.

Bachelor of Education (Degree)

This course is offered at Universities in Kenya; both Public and Private.

Common options under Education Degree Course.

  • Bachelor of Education (Arts)
  • Bachelor of Education (Science)
  • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood – ECDE)
  • Bachelor of Education (Special Needs)

Requirements for Education Degree Course (KCSE)

  • Mean Grade: C+ (plus) and above
  • C+ in two teaching subjects
  • For Science: C+ in Maths and relevant sciences
  • For Arts: C+ in humanities/languages

𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧E

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Courses grouped based on related subjects and careers. There are 20 clusters as by KUCCPS
Example:
– Health Sciences cluster: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy
– Engineering cluster: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
When you apply for any course in a cluster, KUCCPS looks at your grades in cluster subjects for that group.

𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬.

These are the key subjects used to calculate your cluster points for a course.
Example:
For Medicine: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, English or Kiswahili
For Engineering: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English or Kiswahili
If you want to apply for Medicine, your Biology and Chemistry grades matter a lot.

𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.

This is your score out of 48 points based on how well you performed in the cluster subjects for a course. The better your grades in these key subjects, the higher your cluster weight. A higher cluster weight improves your chances of being admitted to competitive courses.

𝐂𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬.

Minimum points needed to get admitted to a course based on last year’s admissions.
Example:
For Medicine at University X, the cut-off last year was 43.5 points.
If you have 44 points, you have a chance; if 43 or below, you may not qualify.

𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

Minimum grades required in specific subjects to qualify for a course.
Example:
For Nursing:
– Biology: C+
– Chemistry: C+
– English/Kiswahili: C+
– Mathematics/Physics: C+
Even if your mean grade is high, you must meet these minimums.

  • Primary/ Senior/ Juniour school teacher
  • ECDE teacher
  • Teaching assistant

Requirements for Diploma in Education Course

  • Mean Grade: C (plain)
  • C in teaching subjects
  • ECDE may accept D+ in some institutions
