Cut-Off Points

Addressing the topic of cut-off points, which has generated considerable discussion on social media regarding potential changes, Ogamba clarified that the government has not reinstated cut-off points for university admissions.

The CS reassured the public that all 246,391 students who qualify for direct university entry will be accepted.

“The minimum requirement for university admission, applicable to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus). Thus, all 246,391 students who achieved a mean grade of C+ (plus) or higher are eligible for university admission,” the CS added.

Additionally, Ogamba refuted claims that funding university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort would cost the government Ksh100 billion.

According to Ogamba, the over 200,000 students expected to enroll in universities in September will require a total of Ksh25.85 billion for their education.

“Contrary to reports in some media outlets, it will not cost Ksh100 billion to fund university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort,” Ogamba stated.

“The Ministry estimates that if all 246,391 candidates enroll in university, Ksh25.85 billion will be needed annually for their education. The Ksh100 billion figure represents the total cost over a four-year period.”
